RAWALPINDI: Hundreds of police personnel and their families residing in Police Line Rawalpindi have been facing severe water shortage for the last 20 days.

The water shortage has been attributed to a faulty tube well, which has stopped functioning, rendering hundreds of police personnel and their families in the lurch.

The residents and most junior police officials said that the high-ups get their share of supply from a nearby mosque and through tankers, but the low-ranking staffers and their families have to walk long distances to fetch water to meet their cooking needs.

The Police Line Rawalpindi houses residences of senior police officers, Flying Squad, Highway Patrolling Police, the Communication Section, Punjab Constabulary, Elite Force, Mohafiz Force and Reserved Force personnel and their families.

The residents said that the police high-ups had failed to get the tube well repaired.

Some of the residents even claimed that the tube well has started to supply water to the residents of the police high-ups and the mosque on a need basis.

A police official while requesting anonymity said that the Senior Superintendent of Police (headquarters) has gone for training while delegating the charge of the Police Line to a deputy superintendent of police, who was expressing his inability to get the tube well repaired.

The residents said that the water scarcity has even been brought to the notice of the city police officer and the district police officer, but no steps have been taken to resolve the issue.

When contacted, Rawalpindi Police Line Officer Inspector Zaka Ullah admitted that the tube well was not working and a mechanic had been contacted to repair it.

He said that the water shortage had become severe in the last couple of days after the tube well machine stopped sucking water.
