Police sub-inspector shot dead in Peshawar target killing

PESHAWAR: A police sub-inspector was gunned down on Friday evening in what appeared to be another target killing incident, in Akhunabad, Phaundu in Peshawar.

Ibrahim was on his way home after offering prayers at the mosque when unidentified motorcyclists opened fire at him, DSP Phaundu Rokhanzeb told The Express Tribune.

The personnel was rushed to the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) where he was pronounced dead. Ibrahim was posted at Malik Saad Shaheed Lines, the DSP added.



At least 340 policemen have been killed in Peshawar in the war against militancy that has plagued the province with an iron grip since 2006. This is the largest number of targeted attacks on the police to surface from any district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Police and security forces have been the primary target for a long time. At least 95 per cent of terrorist attacks in Peshawar over the past decade have targeted police officials.
