Head of Fashion Merchandising at Sana Safinaz and a true fashionista in every way, shape and form, here she talks about her style evolution over the years and some important rules to follow

Understanding your body is the key to looking good and a trait found amongst all impeccably dressed fashionistas. While people shy away from talking about their bodies, these brave souls explain how they work their anatomies to their advantage

How would you describe your body type?

In the last couple of years I’ve been through them all! Starting with thin and fit, to apple (while I was pregnant) twice, to finally healthy and happy now. It’s more about how you feel in your body than a type it fits into.

Has your body type changed over the last five years?

Definitely! I’m a sporty person and like having a strong and fit physique and really enjoy working hard for it. I just completed a great boot camp at StudioX, but after two kids there are some odd soft bits that won’t go away and I’ve learnt to love and embrace them. They’re a reminder of what my body has accomplished with my babies.

How has your style changed over the years?

I believe as a person you have to evolve to become the best version of yourself, and in the same way your style changes with you. So as I’ve grown as a person, wife and mother, my style has definitely changed with my personal transformations. The only theme I’ve stuck to over the years is a love for comfort and dressing for my body type.

In your opinion what is your most troublesome area?

Sigh. As any mom after two C-sections will tell you — my tummy!

How do you dress your body according to your body type?

Honestly, I dress according to my mood and so I’ll literally change my outfit two minutes before I leave the house. If you open my closet you’ll mostly see a palette of black and white, with some pops of colour. If I had a uniform it would be jeans with loose fit t-shirts. I’m addicted to white men’s button-downs — I find they make everything look 10 times better.

In your opinion what is the biggest mistake a person can make while dressing?

Wearing something because it’s ‘in’ as opposed to how it looks on you.

What silhouettes suit your body the most?

I like to accent my legs and give the illusion of height, so I’m obsessed with long flared jeans or pants. I feel most confident in clean silhouettes with structured accents.

What is the one piece of clothing that you shy away from wearing and why?

The trend of crop tops is scary! With lehnga choli’s you can drape a dupatta to distract from your not-so-perfect abs, but with a crop top you better make sure they’re washboard perfect.
