KARACHI: Pakistan’s Aisamul Haq Qureshi and his partner Robert Lindstedt cruised into the third round of the 2016 US Open by defeating Henri Kontinen and John Peers 2-1 in their men's doubles match on Saturday.

Aisam and Lindstedt won the first set 7-5 before Kontinen and Peers levelled the match, taking the second set 7-6 following a tie-break. But the unseeded pairing, headlined by the Pakistani star, recovered in the final set, winning 6-3 to knock the seeded duo out of the competition.

Quest continues: Aisam still confident of winning grand slam

Next up for Aisam and company will be his former doubles partner Jean-Julien Rojer, who is paired with Horia Tecau and is coming off a straight sets win over Carlos Berlocq and Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Aisam will be looking to repeat his 2010 feats when he reached both the US Open men’s doubles and mixed doubles finals.
