ABBOTABAD: Doctors at Ayub Teaching Hospital (ATH) observed a strike in support of their demands on Thursday. Health care services remained suspended for both indoor and outdoor patients while the emergency department remained functional.

Provincial Doctors Association (PDA) President Dr Aminullah Afridi had announced the strike for an indefinite period on August 30.

He had pressed the provincial government to accept their demands. The decision was taken over dissatisfactory salary payments and mismanagement by the ATH administration.

Following PDA’s strike call, all junior and senior doctors of ATH suspended the services of indoor, outdoor, pathology and radiology departments throughout the day.

This exposed patients visiting the only tertiary care hospital in Hazara to multiple problems.

The patients included people visiting from Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The protesting doctors also organised a rally within hospital premises, shouting slogans against PTI-led provincial government and ATH administration.

According to Aminullah, their demands included payment of two months outstanding stipend to over 240 house officers, payment of Health Practicing Allowance to all categories of doctors of ATH and 10% increase in salaries which was due from July. The abolition of PMDC exam, which house officers needed to take before they were issued licences, was another demand that was put forward.

He said the strike will continue till their demands were met.

Janzaib | 7 years ago | Reply My humble request to the provincial Government is to sack all and reinstate other doctors. These strikes has ruined the image of Pakistan all over the world. Its just that AMC is hiding their in capabilities.Few weeks back expired medicines were also found in this hospital.Their pays are already quite handsome.Gov shouldn't bow down to this pressure.
