Recovery agents: Sialkot plans to hire 10 eunuchs

Eunuchs to be asked to collect Rs20 million outstanding water dues.

SIALKOT: The Sialkot Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) has announced plans to recruit up to 10 eunuchs as recovery officers to collect outstanding water supply charges.

The eunuchs’ community has welcomed the announcement, saying that they would ensure that each and every rupee was recovered and deposited with the public exchequer.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, the TMA said the eunuchs would be hired on contract basis.

It said that up till Rs20 million arrears had accumulated due to the poor performance of recovery staff.

This would be the first time that eunuchs would be recruited to official posts in Sialkot.

Talking to the media, TMA administrator Pervaiz Iqbal Butt said the decision had been taken keeping in view the poor performance of the recovery staff.

He said initially the eunuchs would be hired on a contract basis and based on their performance the TMA would later offer them permanent jobs.

He said the TMA would offer a handsome package to these eunuchs comprising performance-based bonuses.

He said the eunuchs would conduct a door-to-door campaign to recover outstanding dues.

He said the TMA had already sought applications from the eunuchs. He assured that the hiring would be on merit.

The eunuchs’ guru, Ishrat Parveen alias Reema, told the press on Thursday that the eunuchs would ensure that all outstanding dues were recovered and deposited with the public exchequer. Parveen guaranteed that the TMA would be pleased with their performance and would be compelled to hire more eunuchs.
