Nearly 40 Lahore Electricity Supply Company (LESCO) feeders had tripped following the rain resulting in power outages in several parts of the city. The areas in and around Lakshmi Chowk, Cooper Road, Kashmir Road, The Mall, Davis Road, Ferozepur Road, Barkat Market, Walton Road, Harbanspura, Baghbanpura, Grand Trunk Road and Garhi Shahu were inundated with rainwater.
According to Pakistan Metrological Department, the ongoing spell of rain will continue until Tuesday (today) evening. It says a low pressure system lies over northwest Rajasthan and adjoining areas. A fresh westerly wave is likely to enter upper parts of the country on Tuesday evening). It says a monsoon current is penetrating eastern parts of the country. Rain-thundershowers with gusty winds are expected in isolated places of Islamabad, upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore and Sargodha divisions), Lower Sindh (Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad and Karachi divisions), Bahawalpur division, upper FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir over the next 24 hours.
According to Met Department, 35mm rain was recorded in Lahore, 2mm in Gujranwala, 1mm in Mangla, 11mm in Parachinar, 8mm in Muzaffarabad, 5mm in Kalam and 1mm in Skardu.
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif ordered that arrangements be made to drain rainwater. He asked elected representatives and the departments concerned to utilise all-available resources for the purpose. He also ordered steps to ensure a smooth flow of traffic in the city. District Coordination Officer Muhammad Usman monitored efforts to drain rainwater at Lakshmi Chowk. He directed town administrations to make arrangements for the early removal of standing water.
