The contract signing ceremony was held at the Wapda House. Wapda General Manager (Hydel) Development Engineer Muhammad Arshad Chaudhry and representative of Alstom Hydro France Benoit Dhien inked the agreement.
WAPDA seeks tariff increase to collect Rs51b
WAPDA Member (Power), Member (Finance), senior officers of Wapda and representatives of Alstom Hydro France and US Agency for International Development (USAID) also attended the ceremony. The Mangla refurbishment project, envisaging additional power production of 310 megawatts, will be implemented in phases, wherein the generating units will be refurbished by closing down one tunnel (two generating units) at a time.
WAPDA signs Rs4.8 billion contract with Chinese group
The first two units will be refurbished by 2018, the next two by 2019 and the other two by 2020.
The refurbishment of the remaining four units will be carried out in the next phase. The approved cost of the project is Rs52.224 billion.
USAID is providing $150 million as grant for the project while rest of the amount will be arranged by Wapda through loans.
