Illegal detention: DJAG put on notice in four petitions

Sindh High Court issues notice when no replies to previous notices come from the law-enforcement agencies.

KARACHI: The Deputy Judge Advocate General (DJAG) of Corps v was put on notice for February 17 in four petitions challenging the alleged illegal detention of men, suspected of being involved in anti-state activities or acts of terrorism.

The Sindh High Court issued the notice when no replies to previous notices came from the law-enforcement agencies. The other respondents included are Sindh home secretary, Sindh IGP, Capital City Police Officer, SSPs and SHOs of four different police stations of Karachi.

The petitions were filed by the relatives of the missing men, Sohail Akhtar, Arsalan Masood, Ammar Abbasi and Sharib Arsalan Farooqui, who have been gone since they were picked up on December 11, 2010. The accused, Farooqui, was acquitted in the Corps Commander Convoy attack case.

The bench, comprising Chief Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany and Justice Ghulam Sarwar Korai, expressed displeasure when it issued the notice to the DJAG.
