Chinese envoy, NAB chief eye anti-graft cooperation

ISLAMABAD: China’s Permanent Representative to Austria Zhongjun Shi called on NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry on the sidelines of the International Conference on Prevention of Corruption in Vienna and discussed matters of mutual interest, said a message received from the Austrian capital.

According to the statement, Shi also discussed NAB’s performance under the leadership of Qamar Zaman Chaudhry especially for the last two years.

The NAB chief said that matters of strategic economic importance are being undertaken between the two friendly countries. Anti-corruption work will also be given importance so as to curb graft in the projects under process and huge development projects between the two countries.

The Chinese envoy was given a detailed briefing regarding the operational methodology of NAB encompassing enforcement, prosecution, awareness and prevention activities.

Shi talked about strategic partnership between the two countries and the need for future cooperation in the field of anti-corruption work. In this respect, both also discussed development on Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for collaboration in anti-corruption work which will soon be signed between the two countries. The Chinese envoy emphasised on the anti-corruption work being done in China where the fight against corruption includes actions against flies and tigers both.

The two sides expressed their complete uniformity of views regarding cooperation in anti-corruption work and hoped that cooperation between the two friendly countries in anti-corruption work will be further enhanced.
