A stream flows through almost every sector of Islamabad; hence, immediate attention of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) is needed to clean them.
Ali Hassan, a resident of G-7, said streams in sectors G-9 and G-7 were filled with dirty water and mud.
The civic body has not desilted them for the last many years, he said.
When contacted, a CDA official told the APP that the Sanitation Directorate had started the cleanliness work.
CDA teams will carry out the work by lifting garbage from different streams on a war footing, he claimed.
The official informed the APP that the Sanitation Directorate was taking effective steps in a well-planned manner to address the issue.
Throwing plastic bags and other solid waste results in blocking the smooth flow of streams, he said.
The official further said that if cleanliness of those streams was carried out on a regular basis, the garbage would not pile up, malodour could be controlled and disease spread due to breeding of mosquitoes could be prevented.
