HARIPUR: The provincial government is mulling over plans to introduce more reforms to the local government to strengthen the system and ensure it becomes people-friendly.

This was said by Minister for Finance Muzaffar Said. He issued this statement while speaking to participants at the inaugural ceremony of the new building of the district accounts office on the premises of the historic Fort Harkishan Garh.

The finance minister said reforms in the local government system would enable it to achieve the goal of improving people’s lives. “The provincial administration is committed to devolving powers to the grass-root level,” he said.

Criticising the federal government, the finance minister said apart from the outstanding billions in net hydel profit, the Centre was also not paying the annual share of Rs18 billion to K-P.

However, he vowed that the provincial government would not budge from its principled stand and continue struggling. He said despite the fact that K-P was dependent on resources due from the federal government, the province put its best foot forward to improve facilities for citizens.

Muzaffar said legislation introduced by the incumbent provincial government would have a lasting impact on services. He said buildings of district accounts offices were being reconstructed with modern facilities so that the general public could benefit. He asked the staff to facilitate visitors, especially pensioners, properly and reduce common complaints to zero.
