KARACHI: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar has said the government has decided to file a legal reference with the British government against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain’s alleged anti-Pakistan remarks.

“We will be lodging the complaint over incitement to violence and anti-state sloganeering by Altaf Hussain,” Nisar said after presiding over a law and meeting in Karachi. Besides Nisar, DG Rangers and IG Sindh were among the attendees.

Altaf gave a telephone address to his supporters in which he castigated the media for not giving due coverage of his workers and allegedly raised anti-Pakistan slogans.

As the speech triggered countrywide uproar and widespread condemnation, his senior aides ‘completely disowned’ his remarks and disavowed the London-based decision-making body of the party.

Nisar said all stakeholders and political parties were on the same page against the MQM supremo’s derogatory speech, in which he spoke against the Pakistani state, inciting his workers to create law and order problem in Karachi.

“Altaf Hussain’s recent speech has revealed all and cleared the doubts held by people earlier. I can say this without doubt that no one will support him now since he has talked against Pakistan.”

Nisar went on to add, “The Karachi’s Urdu-speaking community is the most patriotic segment of the Pakistani society and they will not speak ill of this country.”

The interior minister also assured media representatives to provide full security to channels and newspapers. "Karachi won't be made hostage on the call of one person now," he said.
