KARACHI: Karachi University (KU) distanced itself with the KU Model United Nations (MUN) II Conference, which is to be held at Regent Plaza Hotel this week.

The university notified that those organising the conference, titled KUMUN II, which will be held at Regent Plaza Hotel from August 26 to August 28, are misusing the name of the university as no permission or clearance was taken from the varsity for the event. Therefore, KU categorically denies any affiliation with the conference. The university stated that it will also not be responsible for any financial or other sort of irregularity or mismanagement. Furthermore, KU's students' society, Karachi University Model United Nations Society, in whose name the event is being organised, has also distanced itself from the conference.

The conference, which was started in 2014 from the criminology department under the supervision of faculty of social sciences dean Prof Dr Moonis Ahmar, was recently moved to the department of public administration under the supervision of faculty of management and administrative sciences dean Prof Dr Khalid Iraqi.

Some former members of the society are misusing the name of the university and are not accepting the recent official society, which took oath under the vice-chancellor, Prof Dr Muhammad Qaiser. "The university has no affiliation with the society which is holding the conference in Regent Plaza Hotel while KU's official KUMUN will be held somewhere between October and November," said Dr Iraqi.
