Opposition wants Peshawar district budget to be declared null and void

Calling the Peshawar district budget for Fiscal Year 2016-17 illegal, opposition members of the district council approached the PHC and asked it to declare the budget null and void.

A petition was filed by opposition members Saeed Zahir, Safdar Baghi and others through their counsel Advocate Ayaz Khan under Article 199 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

The petitioners said that annual budget of Rs10.66 billion for Peshawar district was passed a few days ago. However, the rules and regulations were not followed while passing the budget.

The petition said that the opposition boycotted budget proceedings to protest against the district government’s attitude.

It stated that as per the law, the district nazim should have brought them back to attend proceedings.

It further read that he did not bring the protesting members back to the council hall and the budget was passed in their absence.

The petitioners requested the PHC to declare the budget null and void.
