Excessive bleeding: Congo virus claims life of Afghan

The virus was detected in both the patients when their blood samples were sent to Karachi for testing

QUETTA: An Afghan woman died due to the Congo virus at Fatima Jinnah Chest and TB Hospital Quetta, on Sunday.

Fatima Bibi, 45, was brought to Quetta from Kandahar province of Afghanistan, four days back. She had been admitted alongside a 20-year-old man Habibullah. She was bleeding from her nose and mouth.

The virus was detected in both the patients when their blood samples were sent to Karachi for testing.

“The condition of Fatima Bibi was serious and it further deteriorated late night and she passed away in the morning,” said Dr Abbas Notkani. Ntkani was overseeing the treatment of both the Afghan patients, in Fatima Jinnah Chest hospital.

Sources in the hospital said that Fatima Bibi had died due to excessive bleeding from her nose and mouth.
