SWABI: Judicious research demands full concentration and Pakistan needs advanced and sophisticated technology to develop indigenous and result-oriented perusals.

This was said by Wapda Chairperson Zafar Mahmood and was mentioned in a press release issued on Saturday. Mahmood was addressing an induction ceremony at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology in Topi, Swabi.

GIKI and Wapda also signed a memorandum of understanding on this occasion.

“We must conduct research which meets our requirements and has a far-reaching and positive influence on our industrial and economic sectors,” the statement cited him as saying. According to Mahmood, institutes and universities should conduct research and play their part effectively.

New age

“This is an age of innovation and excellence and hi-tech engineering is the need of the hours,” the press release cited the chairperson as saying. “Nations which acquire excellence in hi-tech engineering will achieve progress and prosperity.”

The Wapda chairperson said the scourge of poverty, ignorance and underdevelopment can only be prevented by competent people who have the motivation to excel.

“Once students have determined their strengths and fixed their goal they will have to make untiring efforts to achieve them,” the statement added.

On the occasion, Shamul Mulk, the president of Society for the Promotion of Engineering Sciences and Technology in Pakistan, said it is our responsibility to equip the youth to act as the forerunner of change in the country.

The press release cited GIKI Rector Jehangir Bashar as saying, “We need to emphasise discipline and proper conduct. We give you the freedom to do your own study.”
