PESHAWAR: The provincial election commission has rejected dozens of nomination papers submitted for the local government by-elections in various districts of the province.

A majority of the nomination papers have been rejected because incomplete testimonials have been attached with the applications.

The Election Commission of Pakistan has given candidates till Saturday (today) to file an appeal against the rejection.

The decision on the appeals will be given on August 23. The final list of candidates will be issued on August 30 while the electoral symbols will be allotted on August 31.

At least 400 candidates have submitted nomination papers for 35 seats in three tiers of the local government, including village and neighbourhood councils.

ECP officials said the local government elections will be held on September 20 in 26 districts including Peshawar, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Karak, Lakki Marwat, D.I Khan, Tank, Abbotabad, Mansehra, Buner and Dir.
