The jewellery designer behind Project Rich, Madiha Saail, talks to us about her family heirlooms and her most favourite creation

How/when did you get interested in jewellery?

Ever since I first laid eyes on my mother’s vintage wedding earrings. I used to hang them on top of my ears and walk around because I wasn’t allowed to get my ears pierced.

What are your favourite pieces of jewellery (precious or costume)?

My all-time favourite is my dadi’s gothic garnet set that I received as an heirloom on my wedding. My new favourite however is the ‘Quaid kara’ from my own line.

Where did you buy/get them from?

I designed the ‘Quaid kara’ and the garnet set is a family heirloom.

Is there any piece you are emotionally attached to and why?

I’m quite attached to my graduation locket, which was given to me when I got my Doctorate degree in Pharmacy, by my loving chacha. I wear it every single day.

Share a story with us about how you acquired one of your favourite pieces?

I saw a penny bracelet with the Queen of England’s face on it and I thought I don’t love the Queen, but whose face would I want to wear? That’s how the ‘Quaid kara’ was invented. The moment it came back from the karkhana, it was love at first sight. I got it made in both silver and gold. I wear it with everything and never get bored of it.

Is there anything on your radar that you want to get in the future?

If my husband is reading this — a pair of princess cut, diamond studs.
