K-P police arrest cyber-criminal

This is the first cybercrime case registered after the PECB 2015 was passed by the National Assembly last week

RISLAPUR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police on Monday arrested a suspected cyber-criminal who used to approach girls on social media, befriend them and then rape them before blackmailing them with threats of posting their pictures and videos online.

This is the first cybercrime case registered after the Pakistan Electronic Crimes Bill 2015 was passed by the National Assembly last week.

Rislapur Police Station SHO Muhammad Hanif Khan said that the suspect, 29-year-old Mehranullah, had approached a girl on social media a few days ago and befriended her. When they met in Risalpur he allegedly abducted her and took her to his relative’s house in Charsadda. There, he allegedly raped her, took her pictures and her videos. He threatened to post them online.

The SHO said they had recovered a pistol, drugs and a mobile phone with incriminating pictures and videos from Mehranullah.

He was subsequently booked under sections 37, 48, 50 and 53 of the Child Protection Act 2010 as well as sections 376, 354-A, 366-A, 15-AA and 9-A of the Pakistan Penal Code.
