LHC to hear plea against Indian occupation

Advocate AK Dogar accuses India of human rights atrocities in the IHK

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) admitted for hearing on Monday a petition filed by Jamaatud Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed seeking directions for the federal government to take up the issue of Indian-held Kashmir (IHK) at the United Nations Security Council.

The court directed the petitioner’s counsel to argue his case, and adjourned the hearing until Wednesday (tomorrow).



Advocate AK Dogar, counsel for Saeed, had accused India of human rights atrocities in the IHK. He said New Delhi had been violating the resolutions passed by the UN in this regard.  He said India had been denying the Kashmiris their right to self-determination. For more than a month now, he said, Indian forces had been killing innocent Kashmiris. Dogar had said this threatened regional peace. “An atomic war cannot be ruled out if the oppression of Kashmiris is not stopped.” He requested the court to order the federal government to take up the issue at the UN Security Council to press India to abide by the resolutions passed in 1948.
