DIYARBAKIR: An explosion rocked an area outside Turkey's largest southeastern city of Diyarbakir on Monday, security sources said, and Dogan news agency reported that several people were wounded.

Ambulances were rushed to the scene, Dogan said. The area where the explosion hit is on a road between Diyarbakir and the district of Bismil, about 50 kilometres (31 miles) east, the security sources said.

Turkey's largely Kurdish southeast has been hit by waves of violence since the collapse last year of a ceasefire between the state and the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).
