LAHORE: Additional IGP for Welfare and Finance Sohail Khan chaired a meeting on Thursday to review recruitment and training of police officials and provision of vehicles and security equipment to the Special Protection Unit (SPU) which has been tasked with providing security to foreigners working on development projects across the province.

SPU DIG Agha Yousuf told the IGP that 3,338 constables had been recruited so far against the 4,076 posts approved in this regard. He said the remaining posts would be filled by October 10. He said a summary to recruit 5,000 more constables had been sent to the authorities concerned for their approval. He said 264 drivers and 33 wireless operators had been hired for the SPU.

The IGP was informed that training of 3,298 constables was underway at four police training schools. Training of the next batch would begin in October, he said.
