Oil thieves: ASI killed in Sehwan, one suspect arrested

The case is being investigated by the Federal Investigation Agency

HYDERABAD: An assistant sub inspector of the Rescue 15 was shot dead in Sehwan, Jamshoro district, on Tuesday. The slain policeman, Niaz Panhwar, sustained six gunshots in the armed attack near a rest house in Khosa Mohalla.

He had reportedly prevented stealing of oil from PARCO’s pipeline two months ago allegedly by the suspects involved in his murder. Ghulam Hussain Rind, whose father Habibullah Rind is a local Pakistan Peoples Party leader, and Atta Muhammad Rind, besides four suspects, have been nominated in the FIR.

Sehwan ASP Rai Mazhar Iqbal said Atta has been arrested but the remaining suspects including Ghulam Hussain are still at large. “We found seven bullet casings from the site. He was hit by six bullets.”

According to the ASP, Ghulam Hussain is also booked in a case of stealing oil which is being investigated by the Federal Investigation Agency.

On Tuesday, the Panhwar community blocked the Indus Highway in protest, demanding the arrest of the suspected killers.
