Face-lifting, development: Upgradation of Super Market planned

Car-parking space to be extended, which remains one of the primary complaints

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced its plans to modernise F-6 Markaz, through renovation and restoration projects, on a design-build (DB) basis.

The civic body described the F-6 Super Market as the mirror of the federal capital, which has also been the starting point for the implementation of the majority of the CDA’s past development and restoration projects.

The CDA had allocated Rs40-50 million in its fiscal budget for 2016-2017, for the restoration, renovation, development and beautification of F-6 Markaz.

A representative of the CDA informed The Express Tribune of their intention to extend car-parking space, besides establishing a number of small parks.

They are also set to develop recreational public facilities in different locations, restore pathways and landscape elements to the original design and install functional lights.

Moreover, they will also have the market and parking space landscaped.

Appropriate amenities will be added and public facilities such as dustbins and benches will be provided.

The CDA’s restoration plan also includes rebuilding and beautifying the four sides of the road edges, and installing ramps at multiple locations.

New pedestrian pathways shall also be built and the tuff-tiling of paved spaces will be changed.

The CDA also intends to install new night lights around the markaz.

“The Super Market, being one of the oldest and most well-known markets, will be provided more facilities, because it is visited not only by the residents of the federal capital, but also by people coming from other cities of the country, as well as by foreigners,” a CDA official said.

He said the civic agency would leave no stone unturned to transform F-6 Markaz into a model market.
