DERA GHAZI KHAN: Senator Chaudhary Saud Majeed said on Saturday that Rs3 billion was being spent on development projects in Taunsa and adjoining areas.

Addressing a public meeting at the camp office of National Assembly member Amjad Farooq Khosa, he said additional lanes were being constructed on the Indus Highway from Dera Ismail Khan to Dera Ghazi Khan and from Kashmor to Sindh. MNA Hafiz Abdul Kareem was also present.

“The allegation the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz does not care about development in south Punjab is patently false. This region is on the road to progress like all other parts of the country. In the 2018 election, the south Punjab will prove a stronghold of the PML-N,” he said.

Majeed said the local government candidates would be finalised by the last week of August. “They will be handed over powers to begin work by September 1.”

He said the Election Commission of Pakistan would issue a schedule in this regard soon. “The government wants to empower the 38,000 union council chairman, vice chairmen and councillors by encouraging their initiatives and providing them funds,” he said.

“Local government representatives best understand the problems of the people. They will not be denied the opportunity to serve the people,” he said.

He thanked Khosa for extending support to Sardar Mumtaz Khan, the PML-N candidate contesting the by-election in PP-240, scheduled on August 18. “The PML-N will emerge victorious once more on August 18,” he said. “Party workers should prepare to counter propaganda by our opponents.”

Majeed said water filtration plants were being installed in rural areas. He said steps were also being taken to control flooding by hill torrents.

Addressing the gathering, Khosa said, “My entire group supports the PML-N and is thankful to the party leadership for the steps they have taken to address the grievances of the people in this area.” He said millions of rupees were being spent on development work in NA-171.

“Rs1 billion have been spent on development projects in Tauns Sharif,” he said.

Khosa said Danish Schools were being set up in PP-240. He said Rs1.5 billion had been allocated for this purpose. He said 40 villages had been provided electricity.
