The drive aims to raise public awareness about importance of cleanliness and curbing pollution. It aims to keep public from littering in the public places.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, Abdul Hashim, a district council member in Hayatabad, said sanitation workers have been performing their duties. However, the cleanliness campaign before August 14 specifically aims to create a cleaner and greener environment.
“The campaign is supported by all local government representatives,” he said. “Locals are involved in the cleanliness drive. Teams have been constituted in all seven phases of Hayatabad and are all set to clear piles of solid waste.”
The drive will conclude with an event on August 14 to celebrate Independence Day.
“We are planning to continue the drive after Independence Day and will take it to the entire city,” said Hashim
Public support
Locals have also lauded the cleanliness drive and have pledged to support the local government representatives.
Dr Arshad Khan, a resident of Hayatabad, Phase-IV told The Express Tribune such initiatives were the need of the hour as most sanitation workers leave waste in various localities of the town.
