It is still not clear why the website has been shut down.

Just weeks after the biggest torrent site KickassTorrents (KAT) was shut down by the US authorities, another major player in the torrent industry is shut down.

Popular torrent search engine, Torrentz.eu, has decided to close down the services after almost 13 years of service. Torrentz, which was hugely popular among torrent users worldwide, did not hosted torrents on its website; rather it used to index the torrents from a wide variety of trackers.

US authorities shut down KickassTorrents, arrest alleged founder

Although the home page of Torrentz.eu is still active, it has completely disabled its search functionality and has removed all torrent links. It is still not clear why the website has been shut down.

“Torrentz was a free, fast and powerful meta-search engine combining results from dozens of search engines,” reads the only message posted on the website. Users are no longer able to login either. Instead, they get the following message: “Torrentz will always love you. Farewell.”

Torrentz.eu currently ranks as the 186th most-visited site worldwide, according to Alexa.

Day after shutdown, KickassTorrents up and running again

On July 20, the US Department of Justice arrested Artem Vaulin, the owner of KAT, one of the biggest torrent sites in the world and shut down the website.

However, within 24 hours of shut down, IsoHunt, another major torrent website, restored a mirror of the original KAT website with identical design and a somewhat similar domain name — kickasstorrents.website.
