The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will facilitate setting up libraries in jails nationwide to promote education and a culture of self-reformation.
The endeavour aims at enabling jail inmates to effectively re-socialise themselves into society once their sentence is over and carry out their role as a functioning member of society.
“We are working the Ombudsmen to accomplish this,” said the AIOU Vice-Chancellor, Shahid Siddiqui, at a meeting on Thursday. The meeting was held to discuss necessary arrangements for providing educational facilities to the prisoners.
