“The collaboration will bring about a change in the country’s traffic system,” TEVTA Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said after signing an MoU with CAREEM Networks Pakistan Chief Executive Officer Junaid Iqbal.
Sheikh said the TEVTA had been signing MoUs with various national and multi-national organisations to introduce demand-driven short courses. The TEVTA will train 3,000 to 5,000 drivers for soft skills, road safety and basic Arabic. The two organisations will design curricula for the training. Stipends will be provided to candidates. Those with matriculation certificates and not less than 21 years of age will be eligible for the training.
Iqbal said CAREEM Networks was the fastest growing app-based car booking service. He said it had joined hands with the TEVTA to meet the increasing demand for skilled drivers. “CAREEM is a Pakistan-based company. Our 85 per cent drivers are Pakistani citizens working in Gulf region.”
TEVTA Chief Operating Officer Jawad Ahmed Qureshi was also present on the occasion.
