It runs in the family: Ahmed Ali Butt and Hamza Ali

Rapper, actor and musician, Ahmed Ali Butt and his younger brother, visual artist Hamza Ali, talk to us about brotherhood. From sharing fun nights together in Koh Samui to breaking the ice over food, these siblings have been through it all

What’s your first memory of each other?

Ahmed: He has and will always be our ladlaa bhai as he is the youngest and we were very protective of him while growing up.

Hamza: I would say my first memory is, being loved
and cared for by my brothers, as I am the youngest amongst them.

What is the craziest thing you have done together?

Ahmed: Well, there are too many of those but this year we ended up going to the Full Moon party in Koh Samui. It was a brothers’ trip and we had a great time.

Hamza: There is a huge list of things, I will need a book to write those, but recently I would say the Full Moon party in Koh Samui.

What did you get punished for the most as a child?

Ahmed: My studies as I was not too keen about school, and was always more inclined towards music and the arts.

Hamza: Studies, apart from that our parents were the coolest parents in the world and didn’t punish us much.

If you could only wear one piece of clothing for the rest of your life from the other’s closet, what would it be?

Ahmed: We both love t-shirts so I guess that would be my choice from his closet, too.

Hamza: He has the best collection of t-shirts, so I’d pick some of them.

If you could swap places with each other, what’s the first thing you would you do?

Ahmed: He is very active and into yoga, so I would try to enjoy a leaner new me!

Hamza: Lose all that weight.

What is the one thing you love about your brother?

Ahmed: He is passionate and creative regarding
his work.

Hamza: You can’t be bored around him, even
for a second.

If you are fighting with each other, how do you make up?

Ahmed: Food is the ultimate healer for us, so over a good meal.

Hamza: An awesome meal, especially for Ahmed bhai. His favourite is Pakistani food.

What is the one secret talent your sibling has, that you wish you did too?

Ahmed: Be as creative as him and learn the yoga asanas he does so well.

Hamza: I wish I were as talented as him.

Describe your brother in three words:

Ahmed: Fan-tas-tic.

Hamza: A true artist.

Which fictional character is your brother most like?

Ahmed: He is Superman all the way.

Hamza: Austin Powers.

How are your personalities similar?

Ahmed: We are both passionate about what we do, and we both let our emotions control our work.

Hamza: We love our parents more than anything in the world.

I can’t live without my brother because…

Ahmed: He is my support system and my rock.

Hamza: He has loved me like his own son…love
you, brother.
