Trump remarked about Khan’s silence during her husband’s speech at the Democratic National Convention, insinuating that she had remained silent because she was not allowed to speak as a Muslim woman.
“Maybe she wasn’t allowed to have anything to say — you tell me,” Trump said on ABC News.

Khan refuted Trump’s statement saying “Donald Trump said that maybe I wasn’t allowed to say anything. That is not true,” she wrote in a Washington Post opinion piece, adding that she had decided not to speak at the convention because of her pain over the 2004 death of her son.
Following the incident, Muslim women and activists across the United States launched a social media campaign under the hashtag #CanYouHearUsNow to express solidarity with Khan.

Using the hashtag, Muslim women also dispelled misconceptions about women in Islam while getting back at Trump. Here are some of the tweets that prove Muslim women are a force to be reckoned with.
