The incident occurred when a CNG cylinder exploded with a loud bang during filling of the compressed natural gas in a high-roof van at a filling station located near Abdullah College in North Nazimabad.
As a result, seven people, including a woman and a seven-month-old baby girl, were wounded. The injured had sustained burn injuries. They were shifted to the burns ward of Civil Hospital, Karachi for medical treatment where according to doctors, all the victims were out of danger and being treated at the hospital.
The injured persons were identified as 32-year-old Shakir, son of Amanullah, his wife Shagufta, 28, their son Hassan Shakir, 6, and relatives Jan Islam, 32, his wife Faiza, 28, their seven-month-old daughter Anamta and Noorul Ein, 25.
Police officials said the explosion was an accident but further investigation is under way.
