Educational event: Isra, Ball State universities host symposium on entrepreneurship

Experts spoke on career opportunities and the state of business in Pakistan

Isra University and Ball State University, US, organised a two-day international symposium on higher education initiatives in entrepreneurship and career services on Wednesday at Movenpick Hotel.

Notable personalities from the academia, government and corporate sector attended the event. The programme comprised speeches, panel sessions and group activities on the challenges of entrepreneurship and career services at universities in Pakistan.

In the US Department of State-funded programme, the main participants were from universities located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sukkur, Gilgit Baltistan and Balochistan. The first day of the symposium started with speeches by Isra University pro-vice chancellor Prof Dr Hameedullah Kazi, VC Prof Dr Ghulam Qadir Kazi, US consulate Karachi cultural attaché AJ Jagelski, and Ball State University's Dr Kenneth Holland and Dr Julie Barker.

Experts highlighted the significance and challenges of entrepreneurship in Pakistan and discussed effective strategies to meet those challenges. Other speakers highlighted core issues of entrepreneurship and career services and suggested that industry and academia work together and communication be enhanced between them. They also said universities should develop curriculum that addresses real issues of local industry and youth, especially girls, must be encouraged to be innovative and friendly policies should be established that address the issues of obtaining seed money.
