Anchor, actor and travel show host, Anoushey Ashraf and her sister Alizeh Ashraf, CEO of Block Seven International take us down memory lane. From walking to class together in their childhood to sleeping on a random boat together in Stockholm, these girls are two peas in a perfect pod
What’s your first memory of each other?
Anoushey: Flying kites together at Hill Park. It was so much fun. Another early memory is how Alizeh always wanted to use the same bathroom, at the same time, as me. She would insist and my mom had no choice but to let us share the pot. Hilarious times! I must’ve been five or six years old.
Alizeh: There are plenty of memories to choose from, but my favourite one is of us going to school in the morning. We were very young and I remember holding Anoushey’s hand and dropping her off to her classroom, making sure that she was sitting at an angle where she could see me in my classroom. I was like her security blanket.
What is the craziest thing you have done together?
Anoushey: We have shared so much together. From road trips, to sleeping on a rented boat after looking for hotel rooms in a foreign city to even kayaking in the Caribbean. It’s difficult to pick one thing in particular. But I would think skydiving certainly tops the list. Alizeh encouraged me and a few years ago, the two of us took the plunge in Sweden! It was amazing, to say the least.
Alizeh: We have done plenty of crazy things together but the one thing that stands out was when Anoushey visited me in Sweden. We went on a road trip, camped in the forest, drove our car through a wildlife safari, swam in lakes, slept on a random boat in Stockholm and went skydiving. It was an awesome experience!
What did you get punished for the most as a child?
Anoushey: I was generally a naughty kid. I had a slipper thrown at me once by my mom, but I can’t remember for what. I must’ve really upset her!
Alizeh: I don’t mean to boast, but I never got punished as a child. I was always miss-goody-two-shoes.
If you could only wear one piece of clothing for the rest of your life, from the other’s closet, what would it be?
Anoushey: Alizeh has great taste so it would be hard to decide but I really like this black coat that I ‘borrowed’ from her in New York. I have my eye on it. Or even this Belstaff jacket (if I fit in it).
Alizeh: Anoushey has plenty of goodies in her closet. It’s too hard a choice to pick one.
If you could swap places with each other, what’s the first thing you would you do?
Anoushey: Alizeh is very organised and clean, so if I were Alizeh I would organise my own life and get my house, work and groceries in order!
Alizeh: Just like her, I would travel every few weeks and explore the world as much as possible.
What is the one thing you love about your sister?
Anoushey: It’s difficult to pick one thing when it comes to your sibling. You love them for whatever they are and whoever they choose to be. I love how she looks out for me and is my biggest supporter through and through.
Alizeh: Her love and passion for animals. She gets very emotional and disturbed when she sees people mistreating their pets. It goes to show what kind of person she is. She has such a soft heart.
If you are fighting with each other, how do you make up?
Anoushey: We keep away from each other for a bit and as is the case with all Aries star signs (Alizeh and I share the same birth date), we slowly start talking after a few hours or a day maximum.
Alizeh: We never wait for the other to come apologize! We just go out to eat some chaat and drink coconut water.
What is the one secret talent your sister has, that you wish you did too?
Anoushey: Alizeh is the queen of being organised. She enjoys all that life has to offer but somehow manages to keep things at home, work, family and friends perfectly balanced. I am a mess that way!
Alizeh: My sister is super-talented. She draws extremely well, has a creative imagination, is a great storyteller and has the gift of the gab — she can talk to any and everyone. I am extremely shy and take a long time to make new friends. I wish I wasn’t as shy and could strike a conversation with anyone as easily as her.
Which fictional character is your sister most like?
Anoushey: Maybe Lisa from The Simpsons.
Alizeh: Anoushey is a character herself…maybe someone should write a script keeping her in mind.
How are your personalities similar?
Anoushey: We are both Aries so we both have similar personality traits. We’re creative and short-tempered but love wholeheartedly. We also love traveling.
Alizeh: Even though we share the same birthday, we are very different. One similar thing is that we both have awesome personalities!
I can’t live without my sister because…
Anoushey: She knows all my dirty secrets and still loves me for all that I am. My sisters are my biggest support!
Alizeh: I can’t live without any of my sisters! They are my best friends and I know through good and bad they will always stand by my side. They are my pillars of strength!
