BAHAWALPUR: A man killed his wife over suspicion that she was having an affair with another man in a Saddar police precinct on Monday.

Police said Muhammad Aslam, a resident of Javed Colony, had married Parveen, a resident of Bosan Road, Multan, nine years ago. Aslam’s brother Saeed had eloped with Parveen’s sister Nasreen.

Police said Aslam had accused Parveen of having an affair with another man in the area. The couple had been arguing about it for months, neighbours told the police.

On Monday, Aslam mixed a sedative in juice and served it to Parveen and Nasreen. They fainted after drinking the beverage and Aslam slit his wife’s throat. Police said she had died on the spot.

The brothers fled. Saddar police arrived at the house and seized the body. They took it to Bahawal Victoria Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Earlier this month, a man shot dead his wife after accusing her of developing illicit relations with another man in the neighbourhood in Chiniot district, Punjab on Monday.

Muhammad Mansha, resident of Chak N. 237 had become suspicious of her wife Kaneez Bibi’s character, said police spokesperson at Langrana police station.

Mansha got married with Kaneez a few years ago during which she gave birth to two children. Later, the woman allegedly developed illicit relations with a youth in the locality, resulting in altercation between the couple a number of times.

The two got engaged in a heated argument  Monday morning, followed by Mansha opening fire at his wife with a 12-bore pistol, killing her instantly.

Police rushed to the scene and arrested Mansha red-handed with the weapon used in the offence. Police later handed over body of the woman to her relatives while the investigation into the case was initiated, the spokesperson added.
