LAHORE: National Transmission and Despatch Company Limited (NTDC) Managing Director Dr Fiaz Ahmad Chaudhry has directed engineers of the company to complete the rehabilitation work on eight damaged towers of 500 kilovolts of the Gakhar-Lahore transmission line within the shortest possible time.

He issued the directive during a visit to the site of ongoing rehabilitation work. Eight towers of the Gakhar-Lahore transmission line were destroyed in the first week of July due to torrential rains and heavy windstorm near Hafizabad about 90 kilometres from Lahore.

However, electricity was provided to the affected areas through alternative sources.

Chaudhry was informed that soon after the incident NTDC teams were mobilised and rehabilitation work started on a war footing despite difficulties because of standing water in rice fields, scorching heat and a humid weather.

The NTDC managing director, while praising the pace of work and the commitment of engineers and supporting staff, gave orders for early completion of work so that sufferings of consumers served by the Lahore, Gujranwala and Faisalabad electricity supplying companies could be eased.

He also told GSO GM Sabaz Ali to compensate the farmers whose crops had been damaged due to the rehabilitation work.

GSO Islamabad chief engineer and other NTDC officials were also present at the site.
