Punjab govt: Plan to spend Rs25b on road projects

Such roads would bear the load of 800 vehicles per day

BAHAWALPUR: The Punjab government has planned to spend more than Rs25 billion on the road sector under its medium-term development framework, said Provincial Minister for Co-operatives Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar.

He made these remarks while inspecting different on-going road construction schemes in different areas including Halqa Baqirpur, Saahlan and Jhok Rahim Bukhsh in Bahawalpur district.

“Under the medium-term development framework, Rs7.9 billion in fiscal year 2016-17, Rs8.5 billion in fiscal year 2017-18 and Rs9 billion in fiscal year 2018-19 would be spend to construct a modern and efficient road network in the Punjab province,” he said.

He said modern road infrastructure will have roads having width of 20 feet would be expanded to 25 feet. Such roads would bear the load of 800 vehicles per day while those roads which have load of 8,000 vehicles per day would be upgraded to two-way transport arteries.
