Second phase of Saaf Pani Project to be operational by 2018

Commissioner says nine tehsils will be covered in the second phase

BAHAWALPUR: Commissioner Saqib Zafar said on Thursday 70 main water supply stations which would be linked through pipelines with 950 water facilitation centres in Bahawalpur division under the first phase of the Khadim-e-Punjab Saaf Pani Programme.

“Millions of residents of Bahawalpur division will have access to safe drinking water once this is programme is completed.”

He was speaking to participants at a meeting to review progress on the second phase of the programme expected to become operational by December 2018.

Zafar said nine tehsils of Bahawalpur division – Bahawalpur, Ahmadpur East, Yazman, Khairpur Tamewali, Rahim Yar Khan, Liaqatpur, Khanpur, Sadiqabad and Hasilpur – would be covered under the second phase of the programme.

The commissioner said 29 main water supply stations and 312 water facilitation centres would supply water to Ahmadpur East tehsil, 13 main water supply stations and 246 water facilitation centres would supply water to Bahawalpur tehsil; eight main water supply stations and 72 water facilitation centres would supply water to Hasilpur tehsil, 8 main water supply stations and 167 water facilitation centres would supply water to Khairpur Tamewali tehsil and 12 main water supply stations and 153 water facilitation centres would supply water to Yazman tehsil.

Earlier, Major (r) Khalid Baloch said in the first phase of Khadim-i-Punjab Saaf Pani Programme, 46 reverse osmosis plants had been installed in Hasilpur, Khanpur and Minchinabad tehsils of Bahawalpur district.
