Snooker: Masih, Iqbal score opening wins

Trio were off to winning starts in their respective group matches of the IBSF World 6-Red Championship

KARACHI: Pakistan’s Babar Masih and Asjad Iqbal were off to winning starts in their respective group matches of the IBSF World 6-Red Championship, which exploded into action yesterday in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.

Masih registered an emphatic 4-0 triumph against Qatar’s Mhanaa Albodaili, winning by overall scores of 39-00, 56-15, 49-00, 45-07 in his Group B fixture and will next take on India’s Dharminder Lilly, Egypt’s Karim Elabd and England’s Simon Dent.

Meanwhile, Iqbal won 4-1 against Jordan’s Khalid Fakhouri in Group I, which also includes Egypt’s Mohamed Hammouda, India’s Dilip Kumar and Wales’ Keith Thomas.

Pakistan’s Sohail Shehzad is placed in Group D with Afghanistan’s Mohammad Rais, Egypt’s Karim Abdelmeguid, India’s Bharat Sissodia and Mozambique’s Muhammad Qureshi, while Mohammad Bilal has been slotted in Group X.
