Dasu hydropower project: Work expedited as tax issue resolved

ISLAMABAD: The land acquisition process of Dasu hydropower project will now be expedited as the issue of provincial tax on land acquisition has been resolved. The project would generate 4,500MW of electricity. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, in a recently held meeting to review implementation status of the project, was informed by officials of the Ministry of Water and Power and Wapda that the matter of land acquisition was resolved. World Bank’s Country Director also expressed appreciation for the government for undertaking this project with strong commitment and assured full support for the financing arrangement. According to an official, the federal government has allocated Rs42 billion under the Public Sector Development Programme for the project during the year 2016-17. The dam would be completed in two stages and would add 2,160MW electricity to the national grid in first stage.
