New hostel announced for UAF

The decision was taken due to a substantial increase in enrolment

FAISALABAD: The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, announced on Monday that a new hostel for students will be constructed at the varsity at a cost of Rs200 million. The decision has been taken keeping in view a substantial increase in enrolment, a statement issued on Monday said.

According to the statement, the decision was taken at a meeting of the Endowment Fund Board of Directors (BoD) meeting at the Syndicate Room. The meeting was chaired by Vice Chancellor Iqrar Ahmad Khan.

The participants of the meeting decided that the Rs200 million for the hostel will be spent from the Endowment Fund Secretariat’s principal amount of Rs824 million. They also approved Rs73.5 million budget estimates of the Endowment Fund Secretariat for the financial year 2016-17.

The participants proposed granting BoD membership to farmer Syed Faisal Shah, former PARC chairman Ehsan Tasneem and Agriculture Extension DG Anjum Ali Buttar.

The vice chancellor said that the university’s enrolment had exceeded 24,000 students. “We need to invest in infrastructure and facilitate students by providing them modern facilities.” He said two hostels, funded by the Punjab and Federal governments, were being constructed.

The VC also stressed the need to promote research on issues that required immediate attention and had far-reaching implications. “Our country is blessed with tremendous talent, yet we fail to tap into our potential.” He said there was a need to promote technical education.
