Blood Banks: ‘Make facilities operational soon’

Sindh health minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar directed Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority (SBTA) secretary Dr Zahid Hasan Ansari to make all four regional blood banks, that have been set up in cooperation with a German bank, operational as soon as possible, during a meeting at his office on Monday. “The health department is interested to run these blood banks in consultation with reputed non-governmental organisations (NGOs) so that a large number of needy patients may benefit,” said Dahar. Dahar added that he will talk to the CM for approval of appointments of highly-trained and technical staff at the blood banks. The health department was considering to run the affairs of the blood banks in consultation with NGOs in a public-private partnership, he said, adding that all investigation regarding thalassaemia should be done at the blood banks in order to provide better and accurate health facilities to the patients.
