KARACHI:

Two employees of the University of Karachi, who are affiliated with a political party, were apprehended by the police over their alleged involvement in the targeted killing of SHO inspector Taufiq Zahid, who was gunned down in Karachi about 12 years ago.

The suspects were identified as Zeeshan and Rehan. They were arrested by the Gulberg police during a raid late Sunday night at KU.

Zahid, a key figure in the Karachi operation of the 1990s, was shot dead on April 2004 by armed motorcyclists while he was coming out from Muhammadi Masjid. The mosque was located near his residence in Federal B Area Block 17, within the limits of Gulberg police station.

"The suspects are affiliated with a political party and are also university employees," claimed investigation officer inspector Muhammad Mohsin. The police produced them before a court and took their custody till July 23.
