Deadly attack: Qandeel Baloch’s murder condemned

Press Release July 16, 2016

LAHORE:

The Punjab Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW) on Saturday condemned the murder of model Qandeel Baloch.

In a statement, the PCSW said, “The horrendous incident is far from novel. Women across the country are targeted by their families as well as others for daring to express themselves or challenge decisions regarding their lives.”

“The PCSW reiterates that the state cannot allow any individual or group to take law into its own hands, or to incite others to such actions. The PCSW calls upon the Police and Prosecution Departments to take strict action in this case, as well as all cases of honour killing, and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice without inordinate delays.”

ASMA SIDDIQI | 7 years ago | Reply The Punjab Commission on the Status of Women should also condemn Sherry Rehman's tweet which says that Qandeel was not a role model but deserved better...Sherry Rehman should know that judging Qandeel's character in the wake of the murder is a very misogynistic act. Sherry must condemn the murder without any references to Qandeel's character or digging into her past.--Asma Siddiqi
