Walled city: Demolition notices issued for 76 buildings

Evacuation ordered for 120 buildings

LAHORE: The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) on Friday issued demolition notices to owners of 76 buildings. Another 120 people were issued notices to vacate dangerous buildings during the monsoon season.

WCLA spokesperson Sania Qureshi said that the city district government had given the authority a week’s time to identify dangerous buildings and upload their data online.“The CDGL has also directed the WCLA to submit a progress report every three days,” she said.

Responding to a question, she said the WCLA had demolished 15 dangerous buildings.

“The WCLA is taking action against illegal constructions. Recently, the Building Control Department has demolished and sealed over a dozen buildings. High-rise columns of some buildings have also been demolished and illegal basements have been filled.” She said owners and builders had also been served legal notices for not abiding by the WCLA rules and regulations.

She said in Lahore division, Nankana Sahib had 251 dangerous buildings, Sheikhupura had 219 dangerous buildings, Kasur had 325 dangerous buildings, LDA-controlled areas had 10 and the WCLA areas 80.
