Three arrested in Multan for trying to sell a dead cow to butchers

DERA GHAZI KHAN/ BAHAWALPUR/ MULTAN: Five people were brought to Bahawal Victoria Hospital late on Wednesday with symptoms pointing to food poisoning. They had eaten sweets and snacks from a bakery.

On Thursday, DCO Ehtisham Anwar Mahaar visited the patients and asked after their health. Doctors treating them told the DCO that the patients were getting better. The DCO was told that the five patients had been admitted to the hospital’s Accidents and Emergency Department and were being provided the best possible treatment.

Mahaar was accompanied by Health EDO Shahid Khaliq, Bahawalpur City Assistant Commissioner Rao Tasleem Akhter, Health District Officer Saeed Asghar and Accidents and Emergency Department Director Aamir.

Dr Amir informed the officers about the course of treatment they were following for the five patients. He said that doctors had washed their stomachs and sent their blood samples and samples of the food they had consumed for chemical examination at a pathology laboratory.

EDO Shahid Khaliq said the patients were being looked after properly and their condition was stable. The patients were identified as:  Zohaib Arshad from Lodhran; Rahil Victor from Rahim Yar Khan, Muhammad Aslam from Model Town C, Bahawalpur,  Manzoor Ahmad from Pakka Laaran village, Liaqatpur tehsil, and Muhammad Safdar from Karachi Mor, Bahawalpur.

Mahaar directed the local administration to seal Data Sweets and Bakers, on Seraiki Chowk, the shop the five men had bought the sweets and snacks from.

Assistant Commissioner Asghar Majeed Baloch raided various shops and restaurants on Thursday. Eateries where adulterated food was being sold were fined Rs46,000.

Baloch said that he had visited 215 shops and eateries with some members of the Intelligence Bureau. He said they had fined violators Rs46,000. “This is a part of a grand operation launched on directions of the chief minister,” Baloch said.

“If restaurant owners do not abide by the law, their businesses will be sealed and they will be sent to prison.”

Multan

Police arrested three people on Thursday for trying to sell a dead cow to some butchers.

A police spokesperson said Akram, Ramazan and Shan were carrying a dead cow to a butcher when they were stopped at Khera Chowk.

Akram was arrested on the spot but Ramazan and Shan managed to flee.

Makhdoom Rasheed police said they chased them and took them into custody as well. An FIR has been registered against them on the report of Slaughter House Officer Mehtab Azam.
