LAHORE: Punjab Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee formed a sub-committee on Tuesday to investigate alleged embezzlement in the Police Department. A meeting of PAC-1, chaired by Leader of the Opposition Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, was held at the committee room of the Punjab Assembly. Deputy Opposition Leader Sibtain Khan, Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar, Waheed Dogar and Saira Iftikhar were also present along with officials of the Police and the Home departments. Rasheed expressed his reservation over alleged misappropriations of funds in the Police Department as well as reports of funds being transferred to personal accounts of some police officials. “Theft of public money will not be allowed,” he said. The sub-committee will include representatives of the Finance and Audit departments. It will present a report in 60 days.
