CHAKWAL: The city police have arrested a proclaimed offender who allegedly defrauded people of millions of rupees, a source in the police department told Daily Express on Sunday.

A team of the city police headed by SHO Naseer Hussain Shah, on information, arrested the suspect, identified as Altaf Hussain, resident of Tatral on Saturday.

The suspect was declared a proclaimed offender for defrauding people of their hard-earned money.

He was wanted by the police in several cases for the last four years.

The suspect was produced before a local magistrate to get his remand and is being interrogated.

The police are also raiding various areas to arrest Altaf’s two brothers — Zulfiqar Ali and Iftikhar Ali — who have also been declared as proclaimed offenders in the same cases, the investigation officer, ASI Khan Akhtar Khan said.

According to the police, four complaints have been registered against the three brothers for defrauding Naseer Ahmed resident of Bhalla of Rs400,000, Farhat Abbas resident of Mengan of Rs730,000, Muhammad Farooq Gujjar, resident of Mohra Awan of Rs700,000, and Khalid Pervez Subhani of Rs800,000.

The suspects would buy cars from people and issue them bogus cheques and stamp papers, and later sell them to other buyers on forged documents.

On hearing the arrest of the main suspect, more complainants have approached the City Police Station.
