Farewell gestures: Widow appointed clerk

Husband, Haji Altaf Abbasi a member of the Karachi Bar Association, died in attack on Tahir Plaza.

KARACHI: As a gesture of kindness, the outgoing Chief Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany ordered the appointment of a widow of a lawyer as a clerk in BPS-8 in SHC on Wednesday.

According to sources at SHC, the woman was the wife of Haji Altaf Abbasi, a member of the Karachi Bar Association who died in an attack on the Tahir Plaza opposite the city courts’ complex during the lawyers’ movement. Five lawyers were killed along with litigants when unidentified armed men set offices and chambers of lawyers on fire by using a highly-inflammable chemical.
